ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF COMPUTERIZED BILLING SYSTEM

Abstract

This project examines the computerization of the Power Holding Company
of Nigeria (PHCN) Plc billing system. The existing system was thoroughly studied
and as a result of this study, the following were identified: irregularities in the
billing of customers to the next month as arrears etc. It is therefore imperative
to provide a system that will ensure accuracy and effectiveness. This study will
analyze the present billing system in the power Holding Company Nigeria (PHCN)
Plc, Uyo District as the case study. It will identify the problem of the existing
system and developed a system which will be more effective than the existing
system. Furthermore, the new system will accept input, data; provide other
reports which may be necessary in the required form. It will also provide quick
access to necessary data. It will be secured. The choice of application package
used for this research work is Microsoft Access. Microsoft Access is an application
package in Microsoft family for storing data collected in a database file. A
database management system such as database V is a set of programs that allows
you manage data using a computer. Using this package, you can add, delete,
change, sort, search for, or calculate information from a database using a DBMS.
The term database as used in this project describes a collection of data organizes
in a manner that allows access, retrieval and use of the data. Data gathered by
the new system is saved in an appropriate database table. Staff should undergo
effective training so as to help them work efficiently using the new system.
Generally since the billing system is the same throughout and any other
organization that may have similar or closely related billing system can customize
this software for their use.
