CONSTRUCTION OF SOAP CUTTING DEVICE AND THE INCREASE ON SOAP PRODUCTION

CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION

Soap cutting device is the equipment used for cutting or size-reducing of soaps. It is the tool used for cutting, size reducing and slicing bulks of much trial and error, soap catter of various size and shape used in larger production of soaps are being designed, and example is the current professional custom cutter.  The cutter has satisfied the needs of many soap makers around the world.

Other soap cutter types includes; electrical embossing and cutting machine, pneumatic chain cutting machine, cutter with wooden tuble cutting mould guided soap cutter, straight blade  cutter,  wavy   blade   cutter. (Willow,  1996).  All  these cutters serve   the purpose  of   soap  cutting  and   packaging   in various soap  electrical  industries . for  instance   the  electrical  embossing and   cutting   machine   can  be  used  to  emboss  and  cut all  kinds   of  toilet  and  laundry  soap  fast  and     accurate. In  the case  of  toilet soap  production , this  machine   will  cut  the soap  billets  from  the plodder   into  long  bars  to  faced into  laundry  soap production,  a complete  set  of  embossing  mechanism  can  be  install  at  the  front   so that  the  machine  can  emboss  and  cut  the  soaps  at  the same  time  to  produce  finished  product  for  down  stream  packaging.

The   pneumatic  chain  cutting   machine  type  cuts   the  bar  soap   from  vacuum  plodders  into   specialized   length of  bar. The  cutting  machines   is  fitted   with  XL      200,  XL    280  and  XLD  480  cold  stamper  to  cut  double  soap   bars. The   cutting  moulds  types   is  designed  in   such  a way  that their bottom are  grooved  for  cutting  completely  through  the  soap.  A  cutting   moulds set  can  be   used  to   soap   from  many  plain moulds cutting with a wooden table is also a type of soap cutting designed to cutual soap cutting cherries. It is a manual soap cutter designed to cut large blocks of soap within minutes manually. It comes with extra cutting frame, wire and tables for different full size bars and hotel size bars. It is compact in size, curable and easy to clean and operate.

For  all  the  mensiument  types  of  soap   cutting  device, this   work  is  an  effect  to  develop   a  simple  soap   cutter   that  can  serve   domestic   soap  cutting  purpose.

1.1    BACKGROUND OF STUDY

The project entitled construction of soap cutting device is aimed at producing equipment for the size-reduction of manufactured soap into shape, size, design and patterns.

Once all these are in place, the process can begin. Make a soap mold using a small cardboard shoebox that has a lid. Once the soap mixture is ready, it is poured into a mold to enable it to settle. The box has to be lined with a freezer paper and wrapped by old towels. Safety has to be of concern and the process has to be done carefully.

The second step in making the soap is where lye is mixed with water. While measuring the correct amount of lye and distilled water, lye is slowly added to the pitcher with water and stirred using the serving spoon for them to mix. The mixture is then left to cool (McDaniel, 2010). The step is followed by mixing the oils. Measure the correct amounts of coconut, palm and olive oils respectively and put them in a pitcher. The oils are then heated in a microwave until they melt and then stirred well to ensure they combine.

The oils are then added to the lye but must be at the same temperature in order to mix them. Use the digital food thermometer to closely monitor the temperatures and when they are at around 100 to 105 degree F, mix them (Kinai, 2013). Finally, the oil and lye mixtures are blended together. Using the stick blender, stir the mixture until the mixture begins to look like a thick pancake. This takes approximately three minutes. Once the soap has emulsified, add any scented oils like lavender, cinnamon or natural food coloring before the soap thickens. The soap is then poured into the mold.

Curing and cutting

The final step is to cut the soap. Pour the soap into the mold and make an even layer by spreading it. Leave the mold for 24hours and uncover it the next day and there you have your homemade soap (Letcavage, 2013). Cut the soap into shapes and sizes that you desire and leave them to cure for about a month before they are ready for use. Let air circulate into the bars for them to harden during the month. After one month, the soap will be ready for use.

This kind of product has not yet reached the demands in market, but through the study,researchers produced a soap that was different from other soap products. Such that, the study aimed to know
if it’s possible to make a soap with long lasting fragrance, how long will that fragrance last, and how will
it benefit consumers. Through these aims, the researchers hypothesized that the soap’s fragrance would
reach 4-5 hours. The researchers made use of a true experimental research design because of having randomized selection of respondents. In the study, the respondents are divided into two groups: the control group and the experimental group, by which both groups will be tested to know how long will the scent of
the soap would last. The control group were the regular students who doesn’t sweat that much while the experimental group were the varsity students who sweat more during their games.
